About Us

The Men’s Empowering Resource Center, Inc. (MERC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Burlington, North Carolina, purposed with taking a proactive approach to strengthen and equip our young and adult men with various resources and provide them with support and networking systems that will help them to become productive citizens of our communities.

Since 2008, our organization has strived to improve the quality of life throughout Alamance County. Our current primary focus is the establishment of our Responsible Fatherhood Program, which is designed to promote the financial and personal responsibilities of fathers to their children and to increase their participation in the lives of their children.

Our vision: To increase our young and adult men's respect for themselves and others and prepare them to be successful in their lives; to reduce the number of male prisoners in our prison systems; and to uplift our communities by reducing our crime rates committed by males, reducing the number of negligent fathers, reducing the number of male substance and activity addicts, and reducing the number of males in poverty and financial distress.

MERC, Inc.’s various programs, implemented by committed, well-trained staff and volunteers in a positive and nurturing environment, will provide many opportunities to overcome the obstacles faced by our target population of young and adult men. Executive Director Zoe Walker conceived and organized MERC, Inc. to counteract deficiency and failure, and to enable individuals to achieve their full potential in their own lives and in contributing to the lives of others.

MERC, Inc. is keenly aware of the needs of our target population group, and accordingly will provide programs and services in key areas, including academic opportunities, job training and job placement, parenting education, child support enforcement, peer support, and life skills training. Our organization’s goals will be accomplished through implementation of individualized support and methodology that is based on a well-developed prospectus. Ongoing evaluation assures progress and cost-effectiveness.
