Parenting Education Services

Men need to be equipped to address their children’s needs. Our goal is to reverse the cultural trend toward fatherlessness by helping every dad learn how to be a father.  At MERC, we believe every child needs a dad they can count on. The research is clear: children thrive when they have an involved father—someone who loves them, knows them, guides them, and helps them achieve their destiny. We inspire and equip men to be the involved fathers, grandfathers and father figures their children need.
MERC offers a twelve week parenting education course, two hours one day per week.  During these classes fathers are educated, counseled and encouraged to place the needs of their children first.  MERC's parenting education program is designed to promote the financial and personal responsibilities of fathers to their children and to increase their participation in the lives of their children.  Using the evidence based "24/7 Dad" curriculum, MERC teaches by the following schedule:
Week 1 - Fear of Change/Family Origin
Week 2 - Maculinity
Week 3 - Understanding Yourself
Week 4 - Handling and Expressing Emotions
Week 5 - Spirituality
Week 6 - Physical and Mental Health
Week 7 - Fathering and Family Roles
Week 8 - Fathering Culture
Week 9 - Sex Education/Discipline, Rewards & Punishment
Week 10 - Expectations and Children's Development
Week 11 - Balancing Work and Family
WEek 12 - Getting Involved with Your Children
